• Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

    What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science to understanding and improving behavior. The study of behavior dates back othe early 1900s with Watson, Pavlov, and Skinner. In the 1950s, papers were published on the success of behavior analysis with humans. Behavior Analysis continued to change over the years as scientists learned more about behavior. ABA officially started in 1968, and focuses on using the laws of behavior to improve socially significant behaviors in humans.

ABA can be used with all people but is most notable for its contributions to autism and other developmental disabilities, mental illness, organizational behavior, education, and special education. There are numerous behavioral journals documenting effective interventions for analyzing behavior, teaching new behavior, and changing behavior. Behavior analysts stay current on behavior literature and use research-based interventions when designing behavior intervention programs.

    Behavior Analysis at MAWSECO

MAWSECO currently has Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who serve the MAWSECO programs and the seven cooperating school districts. They consult with teams throughout the programs and districts when behavior needs are significant and when student teams (e.g., teachers, specialists, parents, and administrators) request support. Please go to "Meet our Behavior Analysts" to get to know them!
